Ruby is a beautiful little mare with a temperament to match. She is excellent to catch, lead, groom, and with the vet and farrier and is not worried by dogs around the yard. She mixes well with all horses and ponies but is never seen to be pushy with others. She is happy to accept all the fuss and attention you wish to give her, she is also content to keep herself to herself and is not demanding. Ruby will happily stay by herself for short periods while her friends are ridden and is generally calm. Currently, Ruby lives out 24/7 but could be stabled part time if needed and will fit in to whatever routine is required. She will need her grazing restricted as she is prone to weight gain so a home with ponies who need the same management would be the best scenario for her. Due to such a poor start in life, Ruby can sometime be anxious in new situations, although she is a good girl and doesn’t do anything wrong, we don’t feel that progressing her career as a riding pony is the right thing for her at the moment. After everything she has been through Ruby really does deserve to find a long term home where she will make a lovely companion.
Very sweet and well behaved, could be handled by sensible older children once settled in her new home. Can worry in new situations and needs a calm confident handler at these times to reassure her.
Ruby came to Glenda Spooner Farm in 2015 with several other mares and youngsters as part of a prosecution case. She was pregnant, frightened and in very poor condition. Once Ruby had her foal, she was able to begin her rehabilitation.
